Jason Tamthai

Jason was born in 1976 in Bangkok, Thailand. He is fluent in two languages and has rich multicultural background. He studied art and oil painting in the US, and also traveled for 8 years. In 2002 Jason returned to Thailand to paint full time and now resides in Chiang Mai.

Jason's work exemplifies his mix background as well as his moderate and minimalist philosophy. In abstract form, he combines deep tones of Baroque art with flowing lines and expressive brush marks typical of Asian paintings. The effects are elegant patterns of oils and solvents interviewing to create images of Thai quilts, ancient scrolls or surfaces of weathered trees and rocks. Being partly from Chiang Mai Jason draws much of his inspiration from nature and the geography of northern Thailand. His work strongly emphasizes the balance and partnership between man and nature, and conveys a sense of absolute peace and calmness that he intends for himself and his audience.
